GMC operates a Drop-In Center Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at 1041 Wisconsin Avenue. A second, “Pop-Up” Drop-In Center is located at Georgetown Lutheran Church and is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00am – 12:00pm.
Drop-In Center operates as a low barrier-to-entry club house model and offers a safe haven from the streets 6 days a week serving an average of 73 guests a day. Guests can use computers to check their e-mail and apply for jobs. They also have access to a shower, bathroom, laundry services, service referrals, and light case management. Guests are served lunch, snacks and hot beverages. GMC also offers enrichment activities including art therapy, meditation, poetry, life skills, and harm reduction workshops. Starting in June 2021, GMC launched a second Pop-Up location at Georgetown Lutheran Church, that is open 4- days a week. This additional space augments many of the services provided at the Drop-in Center like additional laundry and bathroom facilities. Guests have additional room to spread out and watch movies or engage in other programming offered.
What we do:
Showers and Laundry
We offer up to 20 showers and five loads of laundry a day on a first-come, first-serve basis. We provide all the basics: soap, shampoo, towels, razors, a laundry basket, laundry detergent, and, if needed, a temporary change of clothes.
Computers, Phone, and Mail
Guests are allowed to use the computers and phone in our center and may use GMC’s mailing address to receive mail. We believe in helping people stay connected to the world, whether it’s with family and friends, case workers, the doctor, or the news.
Coffee and Lunch
Guests are welcomed to the Drop-In Center each morning with a hot cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. Thanks to our community partners at Call Your Mother Deli & Dog Tag Bakery, GMC is able to serve guests breakfast pastries and bagels each morning.
Lunch is served from our Drop-In Center window Monday through Friday at 11:30am. 60 lunches are served on a first come, first served basis.
GMC is always on the lookout for new lunch sponsors. Please contact Teddy Sullivan If you or your school, church, or office group would like to provide lunch for our guests!
Programming
GMC offers educational and fun programming in our center. Past and current programming includes movie screenings, bingo, yoga, a sound bathand more. These programs teach valuable skills, allow our guests to socialize, and provide a fun distraction from the harsh reality outside our center.
Medical Care
We have a psychiatrist and a general practitioner who come to GMC weekly. They perform basic health assessments in our center, write prescriptions, and give referrals. See our Health and Wellness page for more information.
Light Case Support
While GMC does not provide formal case management, our Program Team works closely with guests to help them navigate outside resources related to identification, housing opportunities, public benefits, and other services that support long-term stability.
