Longtime GMC guest, Elton, recently moved into his own apartment. Elton is known for his kindness and sense of humor. Elton’s growth, determination, and grit truly encompass GMC’s mission of solving homelessness one person at a time. When speaking about his experience at GMC, Elton stated: “I’m grateful for GMC, thank God, and I give all my thanks to them. Because we are like family now.”
After a full year of the COVID-19 lockdown, Georgetown Ministry Center is proud of our community’s flexibility in the face of so many setbacks. When GMC saw that it was no longer safe for our guests to come into the Drop-In-Center, our team knew it was time to go out into the community and meet people where they are.
The success of the new GMC Extends and revitalized Street Outreach Program demonstrates the power of our community, and supporters like you. However, over the past month, the number of guests utilizing GMC’s services have doubled. The pandemic continues to disproportionately affect the poor and the need for assistance continues to grow. Your support fuels GMC’s programmatic growth to serve everyone in need. GMC is home base for many individuals experiencing homelessness, and our pandemic pivots maintain our sense of community and bond with one another.
During this jump into spring, the generous love and support from you will continue to help Georgetown Ministry Center’s mission of seeking last solutions to homelessness one person at a time. All DONATIONSwill help us grow our new programs and continue to serve our most vulnerable neighbors.
Finding the perfect gift is always stressful. This year, consider giving the gift for someone who wants to make a direct impact in the community of community impact through GMC’s Alternative Giving campaign.
Through this winter, Georgetown Ministry Center continues to provide our guests what they have always needed: food, showers, laundry, mental healthcare, and a caring community.
Due to social distancing and other health precautions, GMC is unable to operate our annual winter shelter. Earlier this year when COVID-19 first halted our normal operations, GMC quickly pivoted and adjusted our Drop-in Center operations. GMC renovated our space to allow for required distancing regulations. Currently, GMC provides guests with daily showers, laundry, lunch, phone access/charging stations, coffee, and access to psychiatric care. As part of our ongoing pivot to overcome COVID-19 barriers, GMC is ecstatic to announce the launch of our new winter program: GMC Extends. GMC will now stay open until 7:00pm Monday through Friday. GMC will be serving dinner nightly and have partnered with Feed the Fight DC and local congregations to offer our guests warm dinners. Additionally, GMC will be distributing gift cards, winter clothes and supplies so our guests can be warm, fed, and safe through the coming months. Our normal winter shelter usually houses around a dozen clients. However, through Extends GMC will be able to broaden our reach serving hundreds of individuals during the harsh winter months. GMC has arranged an Amazon wish list of supplies to distribute to our Extends guests. These supplies include: jackets, sleeping bags, gift cards, and water bottles. You can also donate to the GMC Extends fund to help the safe implementation of our new program! Thank you for your support of this new program.
