Bill McNeal, 1955 – 2017

We are sad to report the passing of William McNeal. Bill was an important part of the GMC community, and many of you will remember him sitting outside the Center avidly reading for hour after hour. He was smart, witty and always had a joke which was seldom repeatable in polite company. The jokes he learned from his years as a DC bartender. Bill was recently housed and loved his new place. We are so sad that he could not enjoy it for longer. He was a truly good soul and we will miss him.

On Friday, June 9th, Georgetown Ministry Center received Fox 5 DC’s “Hometown Hero” award, which recognized GMC for its ongoing efforts to provide assistance, advocacy and services for the homeless in our community. GMC’s Executive Director, Gunther Stern, was interviewed during the “Hometown Hero” segment of Fox’s summer Zip Trip Series, which features a different neighborhood in the DMV each week. GMC thanks its staff, board and volunteers for their ongoing contributions, without which we couldn’t continue to do the important work of aiding our homeless brothers and sisters in need. This award is for you!

On Friday, June 9th, get ready for your close-up!

Georgetown Ministry Center invites you to gather your friends, family and coworkers and stop by the entrance to Washington Harbour on Friday, June 9th to watch the live broadcast of GMC being honored as this week’s Hometown Hero during Fox 5’s summer Zip Trip Series! The series features a different neighborhood in the DMV each week and this Friday will showcase Georgetown with segments highlighting the neighborhood’s food scene, local sports/music, trivia, and more. The Hometown Heroes segment will begin around 10am and tourists, locals and business owners alike are encouraged to visit throughout the morning and make signs supporting GMC and Georgetown!
