Powered by United Way of the National Capital Area, this innovative, 24-hour online fundraiser will raise much-needed funding for nonprofit organizations like us. On June 19 from midnight to midnight, thousands of area residents will come together to create solutions to our community’s most pressing challenges by participating in Do More 24.
Last year, 12,000 Do More 24 donors contributed $1.3 million to more than 500 participating nonprofits. This is Georgetown Ministry Center’s first year participating, and you can help us make it a success.
Bookmark our Do More 24 page. On June 19, go to our page to donate. Just $24 can go a long way and help us pay the fee for a homeless individual to get a copy of his or her birth certificate — a crucial step towards obtaining ID, benefits, and housing.
There are some great awards for the organization with the most unique awards and for the organization with the most money raised. The organization with the greatest number of unique donors will receive an extra $15,000! It all starts with a gift of $24.
Because Georgetown Ministry Center is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and our teeny tiny center manages to serve 1,300 people annually.
Because Georgetown Ministry Center connects with the most vulnerable, withdrawn, and service-resistant homeless members of our community.
Because what we do makes a difference! Whether it’s listening to someone tell her story or calling an ambulance to save someone’s life, we have a profound impact on everyone we serve.

Almost every Wednesday, we’ll hopefully be posting announcements on our blog with an assortment of announcements — what’s new, current needs, and upcoming events. Feel free to spread the word to any of your friends or colleagues!
GMC is starting its very own Art Therapy group led by a psychologist who is volunteering with us. Please help us get this group off the ground. We are in need of two simple supplies — newsprint pads and crayons. Newsprint pads are pretty inexpensive — $2 to $6 depending on the size — and we hope you can help!
Supplies can be dropped off at GMC any day between 8am and 4pm. Please let the staff person know that they are for our art therapy group.
We are in need of men’s jeans and shorts! Our most frequently requested sizes are 34-40.
In kind donations can be dropped off at our center any day of the week between 8am and 4pm. Please call ahead to schedule a drop off time. When dropping off donations, feel free to stop your vehicle at the end of the alley, call the front desk at 202-338-8301, and request for a volunteer to come collect your donation.
The United Way runs a 24-hour long fundraising campaign for all of its member non-profits. On June 19, please consider donating to GMC through the Do More 24 website (www.domore24.org). There are prizes for the organizations who raise the most money and who have the greatest number of unique donors, so GMC could win up to $15,000 if we have a lot of people who donate. Every little bit helps!

Fannie Mae employees visited GMC on June 9 to give back to their community! They arrived at 10am and made a bunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and turkey and cheese sandwiches and then assembled lunch bags with a water bottle, chips, and a granola bar.
They passed out some lunch bags in our center before heading out with Gunther to do street outreach. We were having such a great time that nobody seemed to mind the heat and humidity. Those we encountered on the street certainly appreciated the water bottles included in the lunch bags.
Gunther talked about the history of homelessness in Georgetown and Foggy Bottom, as well as some of the challenges that we face during outreach. We spotted one or two Fannie Mae employees jotting down notes and passed out dozens of lunches to homeless individuals we met on the street, in the parks, and under the bridges.
Thank you so much to the Fannie Mae employees who chose to volunteer with us!
