Have you ever wanted to donate sandwiches, but didn’t because you can’t make the commitment or don’t know if it’s for you?

This Thursday is your chance to try it out and help out Georgetown Ministry Center! Our regular Thursday sandwich donor is unable to come this week, leaving us with an empty slot in our calendar and even emptier bellies in our center. These sandwiches help our guests make it from one meal to the next.

Sisters Paige and Elizabeth Hill recently discovered how fun and how easy donating sandwiches can be. Read about their experience on our blog here.

Interested in bringing sandwiches? Please contact Stephanie, Program Coordinator, at stephanie@gmcgt.org or call her at 202-338-8301.

One of my favorite feelings when it’s cold out is to put on a pair of warm socks and curl up with a book and mug of hot chocolate. Working at GMC has made me greatly appreciate the feeling of warm, dry feet. Our guests come in asking for a pair of socks, especially during rainy spells like right now, and we have none to give them. Please help us keep their feet warm and dry by donating socks. We’ll take them new or used, as long as they’re clean. We’re could also use men’s underwear and sweatpants.

Bring donations to Georgetown Ministry Center. We’re open seven days a week: Monday-Friday from 10-5 and Saturday/Sunday from 10-2.

Thanks for all of your continued support! I’m ending this post with a copy of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 73. — Stephanie

That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin’d choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou seest the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire
Consumed with that which it was nourish’d by.
This thou perceivest, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

GMC is happy to welcome Paige Hill and her sister, Elizabeth, to our list of sandwich donors! This past Monday the two of them made sandwiches for us. Read on to hear about their experience!

When my sister and I heard that the Georgetown Ministry Center could use some more help with their daily sandwich donations, we decided to pitch in. By partnering up, we thought many hands make light work and boy, were we right. The hours of time we initially dedicated to the project weren’t necessary; because, in total the project took about 25 minutes and cost us less than $20. An easy contribution for very worthy recipients: the lunch guests at the GMC this past Monday.

Mise en place: pb, j, bread, sandwich baggies

It only takes two and half loaves of bread, a large jar of peanut butter and a large jar of jelly to help out the GMC! We were finished in less than a half hour and had leftovers for our lunches, as well.
It's peanut butter jelly time!

We added a bag of clementines and small boxes of raisins to our contribution — healthy snacks! We were able to keep our costs under $20 all together, and best of all, we heard that our lunches were well-received…Next time we’re going to contribute on a weekend day so we can stay and meet the guests.

If you’re looking for a way to help members of your local community, donate sandwiches to the Georgetown Ministry Center!
