We want to thank Calvary Road Christian School for recently running a hat, glove, and washcloth drive! They collected so many washcloths for us that washcloths are no longer a top need of ours. We will, of course, accept them if you happen to have been collecting them for us, but for the time being, there is no need to go out and buy washcloths for us.

What we could use:

Yarn: Our little crochet group is making blankets, sweaters, scarves, and bags at an incredible pace! It would be a great help to them if people could donate several skeins of yarn in the same color. Our crocheters tell me that it’s about 7-8 skeins for a blanket. At least 3-4 skeins of the same color would be appreciated.

Sandwiches: We could use some on the weekends and a few more on Mondays and Wednesdays. If interested, please contact Stephanie (stephanie@gmcgt.org) before bringing them in.

Happy Holidays! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday surrounded by loved ones. Thank you to everyone who has donated sandwiches, hats, scarves, gloves, toothbrushes, washcloths, and socks. You have been a tremendous help, and our members appreciate everything you’re doing to help keep them warm.

If you are in the DC area this week and have a bit of time, would you please consider making sandwiches and bringing them in to the center? With people on vacation and out of town, there has been a lull in sandwich donations. Can you help us out this Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday?

Questions – please call Stephanie at 202-338-8301. Thank you!

Today, we received a small box of socks in the mail, courtesy of a former Grace Church parishioner who now lives in Colorado. Our supporters are so amazing and thoughtful, even when they are far away. Thank you!!!

Have you ever wanted to donate sandwiches, but didn’t because you can’t make the commitment or don’t know if it’s for you?

This Thursday is your chance to try it out and help out Georgetown Ministry Center! Our regular Thursday sandwich donor is unable to come this week, leaving us with an empty slot in our calendar and even emptier bellies in our center. These sandwiches help our guests make it from one meal to the next.

Sisters Paige and Elizabeth Hill recently discovered how fun and how easy donating sandwiches can be. Read about their experience on our blog here.

Interested in bringing sandwiches? Please contact Stephanie, Program Coordinator, at stephanie@gmcgt.org or call her at 202-338-8301.

One of my favorite feelings when it’s cold out is to put on a pair of warm socks and curl up with a book and mug of hot chocolate. Working at GMC has made me greatly appreciate the feeling of warm, dry feet. Our guests come in asking for a pair of socks, especially during rainy spells like right now, and we have none to give them. Please help us keep their feet warm and dry by donating socks. We’ll take them new or used, as long as they’re clean. We’re could also use men’s underwear and sweatpants.

Bring donations to Georgetown Ministry Center. We’re open seven days a week: Monday-Friday from 10-5 and Saturday/Sunday from 10-2.

Thanks for all of your continued support! I’m ending this post with a copy of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 73. — Stephanie

That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin’d choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou seest the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire
Consumed with that which it was nourish’d by.
This thou perceivest, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.
