Have you ever wanted to donate sandwiches, but didn’t because you can’t make the commitment or don’t know if it’s for you?

This Thursday is your chance to try it out and help out Georgetown Ministry Center! Our regular Thursday sandwich donor is unable to come this week, leaving us with an empty slot in our calendar and even emptier bellies in our center. These sandwiches help our guests make it from one meal to the next.

Sisters Paige and Elizabeth Hill recently discovered how fun and how easy donating sandwiches can be. Read about their experience on our blog here.

Interested in bringing sandwiches? Please contact Stephanie, Program Coordinator, at stephanie@gmcgt.org or call her at 202-338-8301.

One of my favorite feelings when it’s cold out is to put on a pair of warm socks and curl up with a book and mug of hot chocolate. Working at GMC has made me greatly appreciate the feeling of warm, dry feet. Our guests come in asking for a pair of socks, especially during rainy spells like right now, and we have none to give them. Please help us keep their feet warm and dry by donating socks. We’ll take them new or used, as long as they’re clean. We’re could also use men’s underwear and sweatpants.

Bring donations to Georgetown Ministry Center. We’re open seven days a week: Monday-Friday from 10-5 and Saturday/Sunday from 10-2.

Thanks for all of your continued support! I’m ending this post with a copy of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 73. — Stephanie

That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin’d choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou seest the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire
Consumed with that which it was nourish’d by.
This thou perceivest, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

Our guests look forward to sandwiches that our wonderful donors bring in every day. Often, it’s one of the first things that they ask for in the morning. However, our regular Monday sandwich donor is unable to bring in sandwiches next week.

We would greatly appreciate it if someone would be willing to step up and make sandwiches for Monday, September 19.

Twenty to forty sandwiches — peanut butter and jelly or turkey and cheese (or both!) —  would be very much appreciated. Feel free to also stick around and pass out sandwiches with staff; our guests love personally thanking our sandwich donors!

If you’re interested in bringing sandwiches on the 19th (or on Sundays), please email Stephanie, our Program Coordinator, at stephanie@gmcgt.org or call GMC (202-338-8301) to let her know.

Thanks so much for all of your continued support!

When Georgetown Ministry Center reopened and we asked our guests for event and programming ideas, many people requested a resume writing workshop. We would like to turn this idea into a fully-fledged career building workshop that teaches our guests how to write resumes, search for jobs, and impress during interviews.

We are working to empower our guests, and doing so begins with helping them achieve a sense of purpose. For some, this is as simple as giving them a say in how we run GMC. Many others, though, are seeking gainful employment to keep them out of trouble and off the streets. All they need is some guidance and advice on where to begin.

If you are interested in assisting us with our Career Counseling workshop, or if you know anyone who would be interested, please feel free to contact our Program Coordinator, Stephanie, at stephanie@gmcgt.org
